How do you focus on the positives in life and not the negatives?

D Malloy ‏ @DuMalloy: How do you focus on the positives in life and not the negatives? I seem to focus on the negatives too much and it consumes me

ANSWER:

Practice catching yourself when you dwell on a negative. This takes practice. It’s too easy to go down the rabbit hole of obsessing on all the negatives and where they came from and what to do about them and blah blah blah.

Catch yourself!

Then replace the negative with a positive. Everything has it’s opposite. If I’m angry at someone and I’m dwelling on it I can catch myself and say “I’m angry at this person.” Invite the anger in. Come in, have a tea. Here’s a joke.

At that moment, the “anger emotion” is caught off guard. “oh, a tea! Why thank you.”

And then you replace with the opposite. “Thank god I have this opportunity to be angry. What a teacher it is to help me catch these things long before they effect the ecosystem of my body, mind, spiritual health”. And with that, you move on to the next one.

But it takes practice.
